School Performance: In what ways does the DAEP’s discipline and education model deter or attract repeat students?
Goal: I want to create strategies to improve student academic success and support students in not returning to the alternative school. Through my research I hope to find what would make alternative school a deterrent for certain behaviors and what would make our current character
education program better for students’ moral character.

I am interested in seeing the results of your research. My mom works as an aid in a DAEP Program. They too have students that frequent their program multiple times. Some of the students have told her that they got in trouble on purpose so they would be placed in a structured environment without their friends. This way, they can bring their grades back up to passing. Other students just keep getting in trouble. I look forward to informing my school of the results of your research.
ReplyDeleteThis is good topic to research. I have often wondered why students have repeat incidences at DAEP facilities. I am very interested in the student interview responses. Have you developed a specific group of questions? Linking the repeat offenders to improving character education is a great idea. What Character education program(s)are at your school? What is the size of the population of students you will be studying?
ReplyDeleteI think that the idea of your research will be informative. I have had several students go to an AEP and not want to go back at all and I have some students that could care less if they go back. I have a friend who worked for a JJAEP for a hile and they would discuss one time students and repeat offenders. They felt that it might be a correlation between their home environment and it eventually manifests itself in their school life.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite an interesting topic. I agree with the previous comment made by our peer regarding a correlation between the home, school and neighborhood environment. From the elementary level, I noticed several students who repeatedly kept doing activities to get them sent to alternative schools. They could not accept strong leadership from the male teachers- nor the females. The kids did not like being at home (constant problems with their mothers, who had no control over them; father not present) but yet would cling to teachers that felt compassion for them and went the extra mile to help them. I could visibly see the tug-of-war going on within one of kids. He needed some guidance and someone to truly put some effort and time in him. He was obviously mad about something going on his life. I wish the youth had more positive programs and outlets.
